Mobilite Stacking Chair Range

Technical Details

The two key differences between a high quality stacking chair and a cheaper alternative are appearance and durability.

You can judge the appearance easily enough, but the durability is far harder.   Here are a number of ways in which our stacking chairs are made substantially more durable than cheaper alternatives:

Mandrel Bending:   If you look at a cheap chair, the tube will be deformed where it has been bent.   This weakens the frame and can lead to cracks forming in time, particularly across the top of the back legs of the chair.   We bend the tube with a mandrel bender.   This has a form on the inside which holds the shape of the tube as it is bent.   When you stack the chairs, the bends in each leg come under stress, particularly those at the bottom of the pile.   With a cheap chair, a stress crack will form across the bend and the leg will break, sometimes with a guest sat on the chair.

Full Length Welding:   Aluminium is a tricky metal to weld.   We use robots that have been programmed to deliver a perfect full length weld, on chair after chair.   Look under a cheap chair and you will usually see two short welds on either side, applied manually by a welder.   If you lie that sort of chair on its side and press down on the ends of the legs you will be able to bend the welded joint out of shape.   That means that, in time the legs will stop being parrallel and the chairs will look unsightly and will no longer stack properly.

The full length weld is much stronger
The Best Stain Resistant Fabrics:   You can only take our chairs with the most durable fabrics.   We would not be doing you a favour to deliver an excellent frame with cheap upholstery.   Our fabrics are all tested to 40,000+ rubs (some are rated at over 150,000 rubs).   And they are treated to be oil and water resistant (while remaining breathable).
You can pour some tea of wine onto the chair and it will not be absorbed by the fabric.   This increases the lifetime expectancy of the chairs by 100+%.   If you are only spending a 20-30% more, that must be a good deal.

More Durable Foam:   Chair seat pads are made out of foam rubber.   There is a hierarchy of foam qualities which is principally judged on density and resilience.   If you took our seat pad out, you would find that the foam is highly elastic.   You can tug at it without it tearing.
A cheap chair will use a cheap foam that tears if you pull at it.   In time, a cheap foam like that will "deflate", leaving you with an uncomfortable chair with a tired saggy look.   Our seats will maintain their spring and appearance for the life of the chair.   Unfortunately, the foam we tested below apparently has the highest test rating (V Grade), like ours, and so external tests are useless in this case.   But I can send you a sample, if you want to give the foam a tug yourself.

More elastic foam lasts longer
No Front Seam:  Our chair seats have no seam across the front of the seat.   This is an area of high wear and any seam will lead to accelerated ageing.   In just 3-4 years you can see a seat pad wear out with the cheaper design.

Heat Treated Aluminium Alloy:   Our chairs are made with a military specification of aluminium alloy that is then heat treated in the factory to give it added strength.   The result is a chair with 20-30% more strength for the same weight of aluminium.   All our stacking chairs are built in aluminium for strength and lightness.

Brushed and Lacquered Finish:   Aluminium is a difficult metal to paint as well.   Cheap chairs have a standard epoxy powder paint finish.   We do not offer that.   Our chairs are all wire brushed  and then lacquered.   The lacquering process has five stages and is more expensive than a simple paint finish, but you will find the result far more durable.   Cheap chairs will have paint flaking off in no time at all.   Our chairs our designed to maintain their appearance for years and years.

Chairs with Arms:  All our chairs are available with arms
